Social work and the Care Act consultation

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Consultation and engagement

I’m sure many will be pleased to see the Care Act 2014 regulations and guidance consultation response published today. It is the result of lots of hard work and application from across the sector.

I am delighted that social workers have made a significant contribution to ensuring social work values and great practice are reflected throughout, with people’s wellbeing and prevention and the outcomes that matter to them at the heart of the Act.

Personalising and integrating care and support, working alongside people to empower them to achieve the best life outcomes they can, is central to the role of social workers in adult social care.

Recently, I published the Knowledge and Skills statement for social workers working with adults and this reflects the capabilities we need social workers to have when working in health and social care.

Social workers are in a privileged position to empower the people we serve and ensure they really do have choice and control over their care and support arrangements.

Implementation requires a significant shift in culture, attitude and practice and social workers have a pivotal role in helping lead these changes at all levels. This is about working collaboratively with health, housing, community and the voluntary sector as equal partners to better serve service users and their carers.
