Meet our new Mental Health Social Work Lead
Lyn Romeo, Chief Social Worker for Adults, is delighted to confirm the appointment of Jason Brandon as the Mental Health Social Work Lead, following recruitment into a two year secondment. Jason will provide professional leadership support to her office to improve social work across mental health services, delivered in local authorities and NHS trusts.
Opportunities expand for teaching partnerships
Teaching partnerships, to improve placement opportunities and the quality of learning and development students experience on placement, have been a great success. So much so, government funding, channeled through the Department of Education and the Department for Health and Social Care, is now being expanded.

Fran Leddra and Mark Harvey were originally due to end their time as joint Chief Social Workers for Adults (CSWs) in October this year, yet you may have noticed they are still here.That's why they want to share with you an update from Lyn Romeo, the original Chief Social Worker for Adults currently on sabbatical, to explain why and let you know they will be continuing in their roles until March 2021.

Dedicated readers of this site will know that this will be Chief Social Worker for Adults Lyn Romeo's last blog for the next 12 months. This provides a natural opportunity to reflect on her experiences in the role to date, consider collective achievements, and look ahead to future challenges and possibilities.
Our new social work students will have the best academic support
It's that time of year again, when new students are settling into their degree programmes and making plans for the academic year ahead. Lyn Romeo, Chief Social Worker for Adults is sending welcome wishes to them and a big thank you to the academic staff teaching them.
All change at the Chief Social Worker for Adults' office
You may have noticed this blog has changed its title and is no longer in my name, Lyn Romeo.
The reasons for this are threefold: firstly to align with the format of other GOV.UK blogs, secondly to emphasise its main focus, but thirdly to signal a temporary but significant change in my personal and professional circumstances.
Caring in action
The Carers Action Plan (CAP) and its implementation is a cornerstone of social care policy and social workers have a vital role to play in delivering its benefits.
The Department of Health and Social Care's carers policy team have worked hard to make sure carers have co-produced the Carers Action Plan and the actions within it really do deliver positive differences in their lives.
